Growing Your Musical Voice

The violin is one of the most versatile instruments. Since its invention in the 1500s, the instrument has become a cornerstone of music traditions all over the world. You can be a part of this legacy as well, whether your interest is Mozart or bluegrass, your aspirations professional or amateur.

I love to teach for so many reasons, but mostly because I love to see my students grow. As a teacher with nearly ten years’ experience, I can give you the tools and the guidance to reach your goals, or even better, to discover something new within yourself.

My Approach

The violin can sound exquisite when played well, but when mishandled—not so much! Therefore, I emphasize quality over quantity. Regardless of your level, we will focus on sound production, physical awareness, growth mindset, and efficient practice methods. A smart and consistent learning process will ensure that you come out playing your best.

I believe in teaching the person as much as teaching music, so my style is highly personalized rather than standardized. I draw upon the methods of Ivan Galamian, Mimi Zweig, Sinichi Suzuki, and Mauricio Fuks, as well as my own methods.

Who can sign up?

I welcome anyone who is interested! The only necessary ingredients are the desire to learn and an instrument (more info below). I teach violin enthusiasts aged 5 and up, from beginners to career musicians. I have had students with neurodivergence and disabilities—violin is for everyone!

Learning format

I teach private lessons and coach chamber music in 1-hour blocks, or 45-minute sessions for the youngsters. Consistent weekly lessons are necessary to maintain growth. Regular students are eligible to showcase their progress in fun winter and spring recitals.

Please contact me if you have any questions! We can schedule a trial lesson and discuss location and fees.

Getting an instrument

It may not surprise you that for your study, you will need a violin and bow in good condition. If you do not own an instrument, you can rent or buy one. Recommended shops include Strings and Other Things, David Segal, Julie Reed, among many others. I generally discourage shopping online. If you have questions about acquiring an instrument, please contact me.
